TEDxAuckland is a platform where we had the opportunity to help conceptualize and design the main themes for three of their events. Our creative input was instrumental in shaping the narrative and ensuring each event resonated with the audience.

TEDxAuckland is a platform where we had the opportunity to help conceptualize and design the main themes for three of their events. Our creative input was instrumental in shaping the narrative and ensuring each event resonated with the audience.
Our collaboration with TEDxAuckland centred on the opportunity to help conceptualise and design the core visual themes for three of their annual events. Each theme required more than a graphic treatment. It demanded a clear narrative that could translate complex ideas into a cohesive visual language capable of carrying the experience across stage design, digital media and event collateral. Working closely with the organising team, we explored how each concept could reflect the spirit of the talks while creating a distinctive identity that audiences could immediately recognise and connect with.
For the 2020 event, themed MMXX, the creative direction was shaped by the milestone of the event’s eleventh year and the symbolic reflection that comes with the turning of a decade. The concept examined the idea of looking both backward and forward, celebrating what had been achieved while opening space for what comes next. Early explorations focused on visualising time, cycles and continuity. This led to the realisation that the letter X carried a dual meaning, referencing both the TEDx identity and the Roman numeral for ten. From this discovery, a flexible graphic system emerged that used repetition, symmetry and directional forms to evoke movement through time and the transition between past and future.
This conceptual foundation guided the development of a bold and adaptable design language that could scale across the many touchpoints of the event. Typography, graphic motifs and spatial layouts were structured to emphasise rhythm, progression and clarity, creating a visual narrative that supported the talks and reinforced the event theme. The result was an identity system that balanced conceptual depth with strong visual impact, ensuring the message remained accessible and engaging for audiences both in person and across digital platforms.
Through this collaboration, the design work became an integral part of the storytelling that defines TEDx events. By shaping the visual framework for the themes, the project helped establish a cohesive atmosphere for the experience while strengthening the connection between the ideas presented on stage and the audience receiving them. What began as an exploration of theme development ultimately became a platform for translating ideas into a memorable visual language that amplified the impact of the event.
2020 marked our first collaboration with the TEDxAuckland team, and since then, we've maintained a strong partnership, offering our design expertise whenever needed. Our involvement in several events has allowed us to contribute valuable design and concept insights.
